About Carolien Kraan
Dr. Carolien Kraan is an interdisciplinary researcher with expertise in climate adaptation and policy. She obtained her doctorate at the University of Miami, where she studied policies on “making room for water” in a changing climate. Her research focused on the social justice of voluntary buyout programs in the US and the perspectives on adaptive planning in the Netherlands.
Carolien is driven to connect science and policy. She has contributed to policy processes on adaptation in the Netherlands, at the American government agencies FEMA and USACE, and also the IPCC. In addition to the Netherlands, she has enjoyed living in Hong Kong, Scotland, California and Florida. With experience in both academic and applied research, she brings a broad, international perspective to climate adaptation issues.
