About Caroline Gautier
‘Enabling Delta Life’ obviously requires knowledge on waves, both in the context of reliable wave forecasts but also of design conditions. This is exactly where Caroline Gautier loves to deploy her knowledge, experience, and interest.
Caroline Gautier (1971) – Delft graduated coastal engineer – is a senior advisor/researcher on coastal hydraulics and wave modelling. She has over 25 years of experience in national and international projects, the first twelve years for a private consultant, later at Deltares. She often takes the role of project manager, sometimes rather content-related.
Caroline set up the operational wave modelling of both the Dutch coast and the larger Dutch lakes. Also, for the Dutch Caribbean she built the wave model. In all these cases it is not only about modelling but also about applying wave measurements for validation.
She is specialised in numerical wave modelling, but she has a broader gaze for instance in hydraulic boundary conditions, safety against flooding and resilient infrastructure. She also works on the National Water Model.
For over a decade she is involved in NOOS (Northwest European Shelf Operational Oceanographic System), specifically as one of the founders of the Working group on Water levels and Waves and involved in the sharing of data with the NOOS partners.
