About Floris Boogaard
Floris Boogaard is a senior researcher at the Urban Land & Water Management team at Deltares. With over 25 years’ experience in consultancy, research and management in the field of climate adaptation he aims to make cities resilient to climate change.
The research of professor dr.ir. Floris Cornelis Boogaard focusses on climate adaptation and optimising the long-term efficiency of urban Nature Based Solutions as raingardens, bio-swales, permeable pavement etc. Research fields include climate adaptation, nature-based solutions, interdisciplinary monitoring, citizen science, water supply, storm water quality & management and urban planning.
Floris is the founder of participative citizen science tools as ClimateScan and ClimateCafe, where next to climate adaptation and nature-based solutions, challenges such as heat stress, drought and land subsidence are addressed and innovations in water resources management and blue green solutions for urban flood, drought and heat management are implemented and monitored around the globe.
Floris Boogaard won the national climate adaptation award in 2014 and was nominated as engineer of the year in 2011 and nominated professor of the year in 2021. Floris Boogaard launched tools such as www.climatescan.org (over 12000 Best Management Practices on climate adaptation) and www.climatecafe.nl (over 50th action events on climate adaptation around the world) to accelerate climate adaptation.
