About Frank Lamé

Frank Lamé has worked at Deltares since 1985 (until 2008 at TNO). The first 25 years of his career as an expert in the field of soil pollution, soil pollution investigation, sampling and the application of secondary building materials. During that period he mainly carried out consultancy work for the Dutch Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment and directly contributed to legislation and regulations regarding soil protection.

From 2011 to 2022, he led the research work of Deltares for the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management as program manager. This shifted his focus to the management of large programs. He is currently responsible for the business side of several EU projects, an NWO project and a Growth Fund project.

He has been involved in standardization activities at national, European and international level since the late 1980s. From 2001 to 2017, he was chairman of ISO/TC 190 – Soil Quality. In order to respond to the growing European interest, he was at the cradle of CEN/TC 345 – Characterization of Soils, which he chaired from 2002 to 2019. He was also chairman of CEN/TC 292 – Characterization of Waste from 2014 to 2020. Finally, in 2015, he was responsible for the establishment of CEN/TC 444 – Environmental characterization of solid matrices. This last committee ensures the harmonization of measurement methods for multiple environmental matrices. Three European standardization committees, including CEN/TC 292 and CEN/TC 345, were disbanded as a result.

To date, he holds the chairmanship of CEN/TC 444, which now covers some 180 EN-(ISO-)standards.
