About Gerben Koers

Gerben contributes to Deltares' objectives by integrating a social science perspective into projects, leveraging his expertise as a spatial planner. His primary role is to ensure projects are not only technically sound but also socially relevant and desirable. Internally, he works on enhancing the societal impact of Deltares' knowledge by researching methods to monitor and improve this impact.

His work focuses mainly on climate adaptation in urban areas but also extends to water safety, land subsidence, and the energy transition. Gerben is involved in projects at local, national, and European levels. He has previously contributed to EU projects such as EVOKED and FRAMES, both of which have been completed.

Currently, Gerben is pursuing a PhD at Radboud University Nijmegen, researching how the usability of climate services—decision-support tools for climate-related issues—is influenced by contextual factors such as project setup, organizational structure, and societal conditions. He applies these insights to his work at Deltares, bridging academic research and practical implementation.
