About Jakob Grosfeld
Jakob is a PhD candidate at Deltares researching the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria via microplastics in rivers. His expertise focuses on hydrological modelling and micro- and macroplastic transport. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in civil engineering at TU Delft, bringing with him knowledge of hydrology, hydrodynamics and modelling. He also gained practical experience in South Africa and Zambia, working in the groundwater sector.
At Deltares, Jakob contributes to improving water quality and health in river delta areas by combining microbiological and hydrological research in an international context.
Part of his master's thesis was published in the Marine Pollution Bulletin in 2024 under the title ‘Macrolitter budget and spatial distribution in a groyne field along the Waal river’.
