About Joachim Rozemeijer

Global population growth means we need more food and resources. How do we do that while at the same time ensuring better water quality? Joachim Rozemeijer is committed to resilient and healthy water systems for people and nature at Deltares. His focus is on the relationship between agriculture and water quality. With the Deltares Aquality App, for example, Joachim ensured that farmers can measure the water quality on their farms themselves.

In various projects, Joachim is also researching solutions for nutrient losses from agriculture. Ideally, these are measures that also yield benefits for freshwater availability and biodiversity, such as multifunctional buffer strips, purifying ditches, and sedimentation ponds (so-called Nature-based Solutions). Rozemeijer: "Water and nutrients are valuable resources that we should use as sparingly as possible; that is good for both the farmer and nature."

Since 2012, Joachim has been following water quality in agricultural areas within the Monitoring Network Agricultural Specific Surface Water (MNLSO). From his expertise, Joachim also contributes to national policy evaluations such as the Nitrates Directive Report (NIR) and the Evaluation of the Minerals Policy (EMW) and to various EU HORIZON projects such as NINFA and NAPSEA. Joachim received his PhD from Utrecht University in 2010 on research on dynamics in groundwater and surface water quality.
