About Joost Breedeveld

Joost Breedeveld MSc works as an expert consultant on resilient infrastructure. He focuses on the future-proof preservation of hydraulic and soil retaining structures in delta areas. His special focus is on the effects of ageing and future developments (such as climate change) on the performance of these structures. He looks at both individual structures as the network of which they are a part.

For several years now, Joost has been driving the development of knowledge and tools that enable asset managers to make informed, future-proof and timely decisions about where, when and how to reinforce or renew structures. An important part of this is connecting different disciplines, both inside and outside Deltares, and embedding results in practice.

Joost has a background in foundation engineering and underground construction. With over 20 years of experience at Deltares, he also works continuously on issues involving soil-structure interaction. In the context of both building safety and flood safety. Furthermore, as an instructor at PAO Techniek & Management, he transfers expertise on the soil-mechanical behavior of sand and clay to (geo)technical professionals.
