About Joost Kranenborg

Dr. Joost Kranenborg graduated from Lund University in 2018 with a degree in Engineering Physics, specializing in mathematical modelling, numerical methods, and fluid dynamics. He then pursued a PhD, focusing on modelling sediment transport and morphodynamics in the swash zone using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and laboratory experiments. After successfully defending his thesis in 2023, Joost joined Deltares.

At Deltares, Joost applies his expertise in morphodynamics and CFD to various projects, including scour analysis around offshore structures and beach nourishment designs. His work contributes significantly to Deltares’ research on the energy transition and flood safety.

Beyond his core competencies in CFD and morphodynamics, Joost is passionate about applying advanced numerical and mathematical methods to engineering challenges. His areas of interest include:

  • Multiphysics
  • Fluid-structure interaction
  • Reduced Order Modelling
  • Free surface modelling
  • Nonlinear dynamics and bifurcations
  • High-order methods
