About Marjolijn Haasnoot

Dr. Marjolijn Haasnoot is an environmental scientist specialising in water management, integrated assessment modeling and decision making under high uncertainty. She is the founder of the Dynamic Adaptive Policy Pathways approach. Her current research focuses on adaptive delta management and climate change adaptation.

She has conducted research around the world, including the United States, the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Vietnam and New Zealand. And for the Dutch government (Delta Commissioner and Ministry of IenW), Marjolijn has led research projects on the consequences of sea level rise. Marjolijn is a member of the Science Council of Deltares, she also leads the scientific expert group 'Society for Decision Making under Deep Uncertainty', and is lead author for the Sixth Assessment Report of the IPCC.

Marjolijn is also an associate professor at Utrecht University.

In March 2023, Marjolijn was appointed a member of the Scientific Climate Council of the Netherlands. This advisory body provides the government with solicited and unsolicited advice on climate policy.

Marjolijn is also a member of the guidance committee of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL), since June 2024.
