About Mark Hegnauer

Mark Hegnauer holds a master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Hydrology from Delft Technical University. As an expert advisor at Deltares, Mark has contributed to numerous national and international projects focused on hydrological extremes.

In the Netherlands, he played a key role in developing national databases for the design of levees along the Rhine and Meuse rivers (GRADE project) and co-developed the National Water Model. Internationally, Mark has led various climate impact and adaptation projects, primarily as a hydrological and flood modeling expert. His extensive international experience has provided him with deep insights into the challenges and solutions related to climate adaptation.

Beyond his work on climate change, Mark has also been involved in the development of operational forecasting and decision support systems. He also gained hands-on experience in his role in the national flood forecasting team, including during the extreme floods of 2021.

Since 2022, Mark has been based in Singapore, where he supports local agencies and research communities in developing cutting-edge hydrological and hydrodynamic modeling systems. Collaboration with both local and international experts is a cornerstone of his work. Building long-term strategic partnerships is also a key focus in his current role as Director of the Deltares Singapore office.
