About Marnix van der Vat
Mr. Marnix van der Vat is an expert in the fields of integrated water resources management and flood risk management.
Marnix is a generalist with expertise ranging from technical skills in GIS and modeling of hydrology, hydraulics, hydrodynamics, water quality and ecology to more policy oriented skills, such as policy analysis, cost-benefit analysis and process management. He has gained his experience mostly at Delft Hydraulics and Deltares, but also has ample experience working for a Dutch province and a regional water board.
His experience includes a long list of assignments in the Netherlands, in other European countries and further abroad. Recently, he has mostly been working in Asia (Indonesia and Thailand). He has lived abroad for longer periods in Kenya, Argentina, Poland, China and Thailand.
Marnix has been trained as a physical geographer at the University of Utrecht, specialising in hydrology and soil science. Later education has broadened his scope to environmental impact assessment, environmental policy and natural resources economy.
