About Michael O'Hanrahan

Michael (Mike) O'Hanrahan is an experienced hydrologist who contributes innovative data pipeline designs and solutions to respond to rapidly changing hydrological systems globally and in Europe, furthering Deltares' mission of 'Enabling Delta Life'. Originating from Ireland, Michael is a native English speaker with a strong affinity for science communication through storytelling. As a researcher and consultant at Deltares, Michael has proven to be both creative and pragmatic in response to novel challenges inherent to modeling complex systems. Motivated by a passion for nature and conservation, Michael contributes organically to topics relating to nature-based solutions (NBS) for drought and flood mitigation.

These skills and qualities have led to significant leaps forward in the flagship Wflow Rhine and Meuse catchment hydrologic models for The Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management in The Netherlands (Rijkswaterstaat, RWS) through the development of automated calibration workflows. Also, to novel insights into the effect of land management practices in mitigating the effects of climate stress on river basins in Europe (Meuse - LoFlo - RWS), Africa (Malawi - Mpatamanga Hydropower Plant - World Bank), and Asia (Hindu-Kush-Himalaya).

Michael is happy to connect (via email, LinkedIn, or Bluesky) for conversations relating to hydrology, nature, and restoring resilient systems.
