About Milk Ruangpan
Dr. Ruangpan is a researcher in the EU-funded SpongeWorks project. She contributes to advancing the understanding of Nature-Based solutions at the landscape scale. Her main role involves quantifying sponge functioning across European landscape in relation to floods, droughts, biodiversity and socio-economic. She also supports project coordination and management activities to the smooth running of the projects
Her work includes developing an integrated model framework and stress testing to assess sponge functioning and the impact of NBS, and translating scientific results into accessible insights for stakeholders and decision-makers. Throughout her academic experience, she has several publications on NBS and one of her state-of-the-art review in the field has been highly cited. Dr. Ruangpan played a significant role in the EU RECONECT project, contributing both technically and in management. She conducted her PhD research within this project, earning her doctorate cum laude from IHE Delft and Delft University of Technology. Her dissertation introduced a framework to evaluate the effectiveness and co-benefits of NBS for hydro-meteorological risk reduction on both ex-ante and ex-post assessments, with case studies in Serbia and Thailand.
She worked as Head of Research and Development at Mitigrate, a Norwegian SaaS company, where she helped to develop climate adaptation measures into risk analysis tools for the insurance sector. With over a decade of experience, Dr. Ruangpan has contributed extensively to the fields of climate adaptation, urban and riverine flood modeling, hazard and impact assessment, and disaster risk reduction.
