About Reinder Brolsma
Brolsma, Reinder is a specialist on urban hydrology, integrating knowledge on pluvial flooding, water supply, geohydrology, urban-heat islands (UHI) and eco-hydrology. He has worked on projects on sustainable drainage systems in for example Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Beira and London. To facilitate adaptation he had a leading role in the development of the Climate Adaptation App, a pre-selecting tool for suitable adaptation measures, and the Adaptation Support Tool for creating maps of sets of adaptation measures. Based on these tools he held successful workshops with the community of Rotterdam, Delft, Beira and London. In European research projects (FP7) he has worked on (operational) drought forecasting at a Pan-African and global scale. He is also involved in the development of a Rapid Assessment Model for Sustainable Water Systems, applying it in cases in Mexico, The Netherlands and Indonesia. Next to that he set up several measurement campaigns and performed a modelling study on the cooling effect of surface water and vegetation on the urban heat island.
His PhD research focused on the effect of climate change on carbon and water balance of forest ecosystems.
