About Sem Braaksma

Since the industrial revolution, the number and concentrations of pollutants in the environment has skyrocketed. Using a combination of Sem’s chemical and biological expertise, he tries to unravel the mechanisms that occur in the environment to metabolize these pollutants into harmless compounds. In doing so, he can help several municipalities with designing nature-based solutions for a pollution problem.

Furthermore, Sem is very interested in the cooperation of various living organisms in the different elemental cycles (C-cycle, N-cycle, P-cycle, etc) in relation to climate change and ecology. It has always surprised him to see how well different organisms work together and how everything is interdependent. Seeing this in nature is of course a great motivation to build a better team in the working environment and get a better appreciation for different points of view.
