About Shahnoor Hasan
As a senior researcher, Shahnoor’s work focuses on how policy and practices emerged, for whom and why, viewed from a water governance and politics of global development perspectives. Focusing on how diverse actors interact, her research allows to understand and explain how water/environmental governance is shaped and why policies and practices are the way they are. Shahnoor’s research uses qualitative methods and an ethnographic approach that help understand societal relations and interactions between actors and their behaviors. As part of her work, Shahnoor mobilizes and facilitates conversations on what ‘good’ policies and practices are. She also challenges so that others can rethink how different forms of knowledge and actors can relate to each other and come together for inclusive and just development. One of her research projects, which focused on the Dutch Delta Approach in Vietnam and Bangladesh, generated a debate in the Dutch water sector. It prompted practitioners to reflect on their methods of exchanging water and delta knowledge and expertise with international partners, looking beyond traditional westernized or Global North driven approaches and contributed to further discussions about social inclusion in international water cooperation.
