About Siem Jansen
Siem Jansen is a researcher and advisor at Deltares Research Institute. His work has largely focused on subsurface hydrology, soil subsidence and peat oxidation. A great deal of his work is done within the Netherlands Research Programme on Greenhouse Gas Dynamics in Peatlands and Organic Soils (NOBV). In this program he works on in situ measurements and data analysis, and translating these findings into models. A key project is the registration system SOMERS (Subsurface Organic Matter Emission Registration System), which simulates groundwater and carbon dynamics, and the resulting CO2 emission due to peat decomposition.
Siem also works in projects focused on spatial planning based on the soil and water system. Furthermore, as the project manager for AquaConSoil, Europe's largest conference focusing on applied knowledge in the management of soil-water systems, he is responsible for the management of the organizing and program committee and introducing new and innovative components to the conference.
