About Sonja Wanke

Sonja Wanke is an ecosystem-based management researcher and advisor at Deltares with a degree in Environmental and Resource Management (MSc). She brings over five years of dedicated experience in sustainable water management and ecosystem conservation, specialising in marine, coastal, and freshwater systems. Her approach is systems-oriented, designing tailored frameworks and system diagrams that facilitate the integration of natural systems into sustainable development plans.

Her project management expertise is fortified by her roles in international projects such as H2020 and Horizon Europe, where she has developed skills in financial oversight, planning, and risk assessment. Currently, Sonja manages several EU projects, working closely with external stakeholders and financiers. She also frequently heads and supports proposal writing and tendering processes for major institutions including the European Union, World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank.
