About Wiebe de Boer
Wiebe de Boer has over 12 years of professional experience in the fields of coastal engineering and ports and waterways. After his MSc degree in Civil Engineering & Management at the University of Twente (2009), he now works as a senior project manager and advisor on Resilient Ports & Coasts (RPC) at Deltares. Wiebe has a background in coastal morphology and project experience in the fields of resilient port infrastructure, sediment management, coastal erosion management, nature-based solutions and climate change adaptation. He has gained project experience in, amongst others, the Netherlands, the United States, the Republic of Korea and West Africa.
Within Deltares Wiebe coordinates the portfolio on Infrastructure Systems with a focus on Ports and Waterways. He is or has been involved in several multi-party cooperations, such as EcoShape (on Nature-Based Solutions), Dutch Coastline Challenge (on scalable, climate-neutral and nature-inclusive coastal maintenance) and SmartPort (on port infrastructure, logistics and energy and industry). He also initiated and coordinated several joint industry (JIP) and EU projects. Currently, he is project developer at SmartPort, a knowledge hub in the Port of Rotterdam, where he coordinates the roadmap Future-proof Port Infrastructure.
In his work Wiebe strives to apply new technologies and integrate knowledge from different disciplines to solve both today’s and tomorrow’s challenges with a focus on sustainability and climate resilience.
