The consequences of climate change, land subsidence, population growth and related salinisation and water shortages are increasingly apparent to local people in Flanders. In order to understand and map the current fresh groundwater resources data was collected. The 3D fresh-brackish-salt distribution of the groundwater is mapped with electromagnetic data collected with a helicopter. The FRESHEM approach with use of ground-truth data and the construction of a 3D lithological model was used to translate these measurements into salinity of the groundwater and a new map of the fresh groundwater resources.
