Working together in TKI projects
"Joining forces to answer societal challenges for the Netherlands"
The Netherlands encourages joint research between business, science and government representatives in ten identified top sectors. These include one or more Top Consortia for Knowledge and Innovation (TKIs). For each TKI, budget is available for joint research in the form of Public Private Partnerships (PPPs). In this way, the Netherlands wants to (continue to) make the difference nationally and internationally and lead the way in knowledge and innovation. Deltares contributes to this with its knowledge of water, subsurface, and infrastructure.
Collaboration with Deltares
Deltares is intensively involved in eight of the ten TKIs: Delta Technology, Water Technology, Offshore Energy, Maritime, Urban Energy, Construction and Engineering, Agri and Food Horticulture and Starting Materials.
Only in cooperation with clients, knowledge institutes and market parties can we meet the societal challenges in the field of water, subsoil and infrastructure. The TKI scheme is an important driver to develop applicable knowledge that is needed.

Since 2014, Deltares has been working in TKI collaboration projects with private and public partners. A precondition is that these projects must focus on societal challenges as elaborated in Knowledge and Innovation Agendas (KIA) with Multi-Year Mission-Driven Innovation Programmes (MMIPs). The initiative for a collaboration can come from all parties. Do you have an idea for a project? Then get in touch via TKI@deltares.nl.
An example of a TKI collaboration is the CLIMACS project, a project in which The Weather Makers, Van Oord, TU Delft and Deltares are working together on an innovative nature-based solution for protecting dikes and quays, among other things, by raising the foreshore. Deltares is contributing to this project with its unique experimental facilities and expert modelling knowledge:
