Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) has proven to be profitable both economically as well as energetically. However, large scale adoption of the technology is limited by several barriers which were identified in the Climate-KIC E-use(aq) project (Hoekstra et al., 2015). This project report describes activities to address one of those barriers, which is the need to obtain energy balance over a long time period through the addition of renewable heat source and heat sharing between buildings.
