Historically polluted sediments in the Maas catchment
Publicatie type | Rapport Deltares
In this memo the downstream ecological risks of the upstream erosion of historically polluted Meuse riverbanks are discussed. Model simulations with the EXPOBASIN model for a hypothetic but realistic flood event demonstrate that fluoranthene concentrations easily exceed WFD MAC-EQS. Sediment dwelling crustaceans are likely to suffer acute toxicity effects at the downstream areas where the remobilized sediments settle again.
