Interaction of a filling jet and a vessel in a lock

As part of the knowledge programme for Hydraulic Structures, Deltares conducted scale model tests to understand the interaction of a filling jet and the vessel in the shipping lock. This complex interaction results in forces on the hawsers (heavy cables used for tying up a ship) and it must therefore be predicted to ensure safe and swift passage.
